- How are gems graded?
- By the share of today's right answers in that chamber that match yours: 40% or more is Quartz, 20 to 40% Amethyst, 10 to 20% Emerald, 4 to 10% Ruby, under 4% Diamond. They are worth 10, 20, 40, 70 and 100 points, times the chamber's number. Each answer starts from our estimate of how likely people are to think of it, which counts as much as 500 explorers' answers until enough explorers have played, so an early explorer and a late one are graded alike.
- Why didn't my answer count?
- Answers are checked against the chamber's full list, with other names, plurals, common misspellings and a typo or two allowed. If a right answer was missed, report it from your report. If we add it, your run is restored.
- Where do the lists come from?
- Each chamber's list is checked against two published sources, named on the day's archive page.
- Why can't I see the chambers I didn't reach?
- They open in the next day's archive, so nobody can pass the deep questions to a friend who hasn't played.
- When is there a new puzzle?
- Every day at midnight Eastern time, for everyone at once.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Your streak and stats stay on this device. Clearing your browser data clears them too.
- Why can I only play once a day?
- Everyone gets the same puzzle, so everyone is compared fairly. Past puzzles can be replayed in the archive for practice.
